Art inspired by Alien D's album Broadway Mid-Tempo Party Music: a flyer pasted on a wall covered in other flyers reads, "Mid-Tempo Party Music."

Alien D - Broadway Mid-Tempo Party Music

March 10, 2023

March 10, 2023 - Self-released

Brooklynite Alien D…aniel Creahan is here with a fresh delivery. Broadway Mid-Tempo Party Music is exactly what Creahan is delivering. Four tracks that fall in the mid-tempo range of the party music designation. No fluff, no filler, all Broadway. The cover image reinforces the directness. A human figure on one side, a giant ice cube on the other. Four fuzzy lines intersect both entities, driving the connection home. This will be a chill collection. Your human body will feel what the ice cube is giving off. A heat sacrifice. Let’s melt together.

‘Dream Burner’ gets down to business. A monolithic synth warbles down the center of the soundscape, bringing with it the crushing of any hope of escape. This feels less chill than the cover art implied. Dark, rhythmic percussion pushes in from all directions. You can almost feel the dreams being burned up if only you remembered any of them in the first place. ‘Spicy Action’ livens the mood with a light, break-beat-driven, top-down cruise. It’s a building track, one that leverages its chopped percussion and sampled risers all the way up until it drops off the cliff edge and ends.

Creahan keeps the pedal to the metal, pulling the party into a graceful glide. All sense of chillness is gone at this point. This project is a heater. ‘Party Glitters’ shimmers amongst the treetops, lightly flowing in and out of a slightly dissonant drone tone. The beat is effervescent and airy, and then, an unexpected twist: it’s the song from Highlight Reel—the wonderful video game clip-based YouTube series. Endorphins rush their way through your brain as you make the connection. You feel very pleased indeed. Before you know it, the track has ended and made way for ‘Sunrise Deli,’ the proper culmination of the project. A very mid-tempo introspective melodic line pierces through the soundscape. It feels genuine and carries an earnestness that wasn’t as noticeable in the previous tracks. The final gift from the melting ice cube. The dotting of the i and crossing of the t. It’s time to rest.🍍
