Bicep - Atlas

Bicep’s new single ‘Atlas’ continues along the lines of 2018’s Rain EP as a cavernous dance epic to rival the grittiest, post-postmodern, post studio cinematic adaptation of The Odyssey set in a post-apocalyptic Middle Eastern desert. It’s energy is a raw slow-burn, and listening is like being roasted on a spit over an open fire where the flames are the synths that kiss your flesh. The haunting voice singing from a high dune far far away is a convention that solidifies this track as part of a movie soundtrack—maybe this plus the Rain EP are all adding up to a new album release in the dark near future? Or maybe Bicep is getting too comfortable with themselves in the digestibility of this auditory language of which we are so familiar. By now, we are all film-obsessed and saturated and know all the scores. But my fingers remain crossed! ☔
